Our Power, Our Planet: Celebrating Renewable Energy at PrimeAsia

April 22nd marks Earth Day, a day to demonstrate worldwide support for protecting the natural environment. This year, the theme of Earth Day is “Our Power, Our Planet,” encouraging the adoption of renewable energy. Did you know that PrimeAsia has long-standing commitments to renewable energy? As part of our “Consciously Crafted” sustainability strategy, we have a target of shifting to 100% renewable energy by 2040.

In China, we invest in local renewable energy through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) which help us transition from traditional energy sources towards renewable ones. In 2024, we purchased 20% of our energy in China through a PPA in wind and solar energy, and we have increased this to 25% for 2025. 

It is not enough to increase renewable energy usage; however, we also must reduce overall energy efficiency. At both facilities, we are investing in cutting-edge technology that reduces energy consumption such as replacing steam dryers with more energy-efficient infrared ones. Small changes are just as important in reducing overall energy usage, we are constantly looking for ways to improve energy efficiency. This includes finding ways to decrease machine idling time, replacing aging equipment, and replacing light bulbs with more energy-efficient ones. 

Our commitment to renewable energy is deeply embedded in our operations. We believe that real change can only come when every member of our team is bought in. This includes everyone from members of the finishing team who can help make sure the machines are used efficiently to our engineers who determine what machinery replacements can drive the most impact. Of course, this also includes our Sustainable Development (SD) team which supports the implementation of our Consciously Crafted strategy.
